Dr. Seuss's timely tale of empathy and acceptance has a new animated musical adaptation, with the release this week of The Sneetches on Netflix .

First published in 1961 as part of The Sneetches and Other Stories collection, the original book tells of a group of yellow, bird-like creatures called the Sneetches, some of whom have green stars on their bellies while others do not. Their divided society refuses to mix because the Star-Belly Sneetches believe they are better than the Plain-Belly ones.

This special focuses on two young Sneetches called Stella and Pearl — one with a star and one without — who prove through their friendship that kindness and understanding matter more than any mark on a belly.
