EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The 49ers' offense had a productive performance in the team's 34-24 win over the New York Giants , but there was one play that coach Kyle Shanahan would like to have back.
On San Francisco's first drive of the second half, the offense was moving the down the field before a first-and-10 situation from the Giants' 11-yard line, where Shanahan called for quarterback Mac Jones to hand the ball off to tight end George Kittle for a jet sweep.
There is no doubt that Kittle is a very dynamic player, but the All-Pro was tackled for a loss of three yards by Giants linebackers Bobby Okereke and Brian Burns. After the game, Shanahan was asked if the call was indeed intended for the tight end.
“Yeah, he was, yeah,” Shanahan said with a laugh. “Pretty bad call, though.”
