MANCHESTER, N.H. —
A recent statement made by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about inflation being down has drawn some scrutiny over whether it's true.
Bessent was quoted saying that inflation is down since President Donald Trump took office.
"When we came in, it was 'egg-flation, egg-flation, egg-flation,'" Bessent said during an Oct. 26 interview on "Meet the Press." "You know, egg prices are down. Gasoline prices are down. Overall, the inflation since President Trump has come in has come down."
WMUR's partners at PolitiFact looked at the numbers. If you look at the most basic overall measure of inflation – the consumer price index – inflation is not down under Trump.
