Union head football coach Steve Pyne missed his team’s final game of the season Thursday after being placed on administrative leave from his coaching and teaching positions by Evergreen Public Schools.

EPS spokesperson Craig Birnbach confirmed Pyne was placed on leave pending the outcome of a district investigation. He said he could not comment on what prompted the investigation or the time Pyne was expected to remain on leave.

Pyne did not respond to The Columbian’s request for comment.

Union football players and parents were notified of the news earlier Thursday by Lamont Woods, the school’s associate principal and athletic director.

Titans offensive line coach Justen Wochnick took over head coaching duties for Thursday’s game, which Union lost to Battle Ground 38-14.
