Charges were pending for a suspect in custody after allegedly shooting a 23-year-old woman during a road rage incident Monday morning in Edgewater, according to police and a City Council member.

The victim, a 23-year-old woman, became embroiled in an argument with another person, only described as male, at 9 a.m. near the the 5700 block of North Broadway, according to Chicago police.

The gunman then opened fire in her direction, hitting her in the upper left shoulder before fleeing, police said. She was taken in serious condition by ambulance to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said.

The alleged shooter was located a short time later and placed into custody, police said.
