Yancey County Sheriff's Office detectives charged a man with murder after his former spouse was found dead Nov. 2 in the South Toe community, the agency announced Nov. 3.

A 911 caller, who was not associated with the homicide, reported a possible death to the sheriff's office at 2:11 p.m. on Nov. 2, sheriff's executive assistant Anna Kirkman told the Citizen Times. Deputies responded to a home on Twilight Way in Yancey County, where they found Emma Gibbs Deyton, 39, dead at the scene, according to the news release.
