Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Republican leaders will meet to discuss whether to extend the stopgap bill to reopen the government past Nov. 21 as time grows short to hammer out funding for the rest of the year.

The Senate has failed 13 times to advance a stopgap measure known as a continuing resolution (CR) that passed the House in September and would fund the government at current levels through Nov. 21. Democrats have said they won’t support the CR until Republicans strike a deal with them on enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of the year.

But the government has now been shut down for more than a month, and lawmakers are considering whether they'll have enough time before Nov. 21 to strike a deal on funding the government beyond that date.
