LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - For the next few weeks the Lexington Fire Department is asking the community to help them give every child a merry and bright Christmas.
They kicked off their annual toy drive Monday.
This is the 96th year for the toy drive. They’re hoping to help out thousands of kids this year. For some, this might be the only gift they get at Christmas.
“This program embodies the true meaning of community and what makes Lexington special and that’s neighbors helping neighbors,” said Joey Harris, Assistant Chief of the Lexington Fire Department.
Mayor Linda Gorton kicked off the toy drive by making the first donation, which was a toy firetruck.
“Our firefighters go above and beyond every year and they collect and giveaway toys for about 3,000 children,” said Mayor Gorton. “
