A potential top target for the Detroit Tigers is now on the MLB free agency market.
Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman has officially opted out of his contract, as first reported by Boston Globe reporter Pete Abraham . He now enters free agency as arguably the most desired infielder on the market after just one season in Boston.
Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million deal with the Red Sox in February 2025 — though $60 million was deferred through 2035-46, according to the Associated Press — after a bidding war with multiple teams, including the Tigers.
By opting out of his contract Bregman forgoes the remaining $80 million left on his deal. He could still re-sign with Boston this winter.
