At the age of 13, Jordan Carlin spent Christmas Day behind bars.
It was a low point, but better than Christmas would have been on the outside.
"It was wild getting socks and lollies [for Christmas] … who knew that a pair of socks would make your day," he said.
"I remember thinking, I don't get shit on the outside."
As a boy, Mr Carlin was in and out of foster homes and by the time he reached 18, he had served multiple sentences in juvenile justice centres.
At 19, the aspiring rapper first served time in an adult jail.
While staying in a homeless refuge on the NSW Central Coast, Mr Carlin was introduced to Dominic Brook, founder of the charity Musicians Making a Difference.
It turned his life around.
