KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The City of Knoxville reported that call volume to East Tennessee 211, a social services hotline, is up 21%.
As the shutdown continues and the Trump administration announced that only partial SNAP benefits will go out this month, local organizations are seeing the strain. On Monday, the city of Knoxville announced that call volume was up 21% since this time last year. It added that requests for food assistance exceeded requests for rental assistance for the first time since 2018.
