Huntsville resident and former State Rep. Douglas Van Hale passed away recently at the age of 83.

Hale, who was renowned for his "boundless energy and enthusiasm," will be laid to rest on Monday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville.

"Doug was a devoted public servant, trail-blazing political figure, engineer, attorney, and accomplished entrepreneur," read Hale's obituary. "Doug left his fellowship at MIT to return to Alabama to help build the Alabama Republican Party."
