A Billingsley woman died in a Monday morning crash in Chilton County, authorities say.

A single-vehicle crash that happened about 2:45 a.m. Nov. 3 claimed the life of Jessica Fortenberry, 54, said Capt. Jeremy Burkett, spokesman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Fortenberry was a passenger in a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country van that left the roadway and struck a tree. Fortenberry was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, Burkett said.

The driver of the Chrysler, Jaynell M. Peters, 57, of Thorsby, was also injured and transported to University of Birmingham Hospital for medical treatment, he said.

The crash occurred on Chilton County 37 near Chilton County 76, about two miles southwest of Clanton.
