Kids with autism or sensory processing challenges are now able to experience the Fiske Planetarium in a way that’s tailored specially for them.
The University of Colorado Boulder has launched Sensory-Friendly Sundays, a free monthly event for neurodiverse children and their families designed to make Fiske Planetarium more accessible.
Ann-Marie Madigan, an astrophysicist and CU Boulder professor, created the program after attending sensory-friendly events with her daughter, who is autistic.
“It makes the planetarium accessible in a way it wasn’t before,” Madigan said. “All kids love space, they love the ideas behind planets and stars and galaxies and black holes. As a parent, I would really want to be able to explore that with my kid.”
