MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Assessor of Property Robert Mitchell believes that housing costs in Rutherford County are raising concerns.

Mitchell believes there’s a big disconnect when it comes to the high prices and people’s “stagnant” salaries.

He said that while home prices go up, many people’s salaries aren’t meeting the demand. The property appraiser said that homeowners are facing increasing property taxes when the market rises.

He’s calling for lawmakers to help create more affordable pathways to home ownership and evaluate the tax structures in ways that won’t be crushing for homeowners.
