Police recovered the body of Gary Schott, 69, from the Lake of the Commons in Tualatin on Saturday.
The Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine his cause of death, Tualatin Police said in a news release. They don’t suspect foul play.
Schott was known to be homeless, according to Sgt. Eric French, public information officer for the Tualatin Police Department.
Schott’s exact living situation was not immediately clear. Police listed him as a resident of Oregon City.
Deaths of people living outside have climbed in the region in recent years, though statistics for the current year were not immediately available. In nearby Multnomah County, nearly 500 people died while living outside in 2023 , the most recent year for which solid numbers are
