SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Whether it's your first or 30th time voting on Election Day, there's always something to know before heading out to the polls.

Familiarize yourself with your ballot and do research: Since 2025 is an off-year election, you'll see more localized races on your ballot this year, including the Syracuse mayoral race. Different websites online break down the issues and stances of each candidate and proposition.

Pick a time to go: It could be hard to find a good time on a workday. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

As long as you're in line by 9 p.m., you will get to cast your ballot. If you have time before or after work, or during a lunch break, that might be your best bet, but be prepared for a line.
