Early voting in the mayoral election was the highest ever early in-person voting for a non-presidential election.
According to the Board of Elections, more than 735,000 New Yorkers cast their ballots during the nine days of early voting.
One of the factors driving voters to the polls is young New Yorkers. Voters 55 and under made up more than half of the early turnout. Ages 25 to 34 made up 20% of early voters.
Older voter turnout was higher in the first few days of early voting, but BOE data shows more young people voting this weekend.
Rachel Janfaza, the founder of The Up and Up Strategies, a research and consulting firm focused on reaching Gen Z, joined “The Rush Hour” on Monday to talk about what’s driving Gen-Z to the polls, and their priorities at the ballot box.
