In all of Star Wars canon, there is no battle more impactful than the fight between directors Rian Johnson and J.J. Abrams. The two filmmakers behind the sequel trilogy (Abrams directed the first and third installments, Johnson helmed the middle work) contradicted each other’s movies, angered fans , and changed the trajectory of the franchise forever. Johnson and Abrams both claim that there’s no animosity between them, but they’ve barely spoken about what went wrong between The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi , and The Rise of Skywalker publicly . As Johnson recently joked, it’s possible that they never will.
