Officials in Wilkes-Barre will complete a drill, exercise and evaluation of the Solomon’s Creek Flood gates starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
All four flood gates will be closed and evaluated during the exercise. The Emergency Response Team will close two flood gates at a time to lessen the inconvenience to residents. However, motorists are urged to avoid the area for the safety of the crews.
The flood gates on Barney and South Franklin Streets will be closed between approximately 9 to 10:30 a.m. followed by the flood gates on Regent and Waller Streets from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The entire exercise should be completed by noon.
The exercise enables the city’s emergency responders to remain pro-active in protecting the neighborhood surrounding Solomon’s Creek from flooding, officials said. It i
