MARICOPA, AZ (AZFamily) — Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed Friday night in Maricopa after running a red light and crashing into another vehicle.
At about 7 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the area of Smith-Enke Road and Porter Road on a report of a crash, according to the Maricopa Police Department.
Crews arrived on scene and found that a Yamaha motorcycle and a Tesla sedan had collided, throwing the motorcyclist from his bike. The motorcyclist, identified as 19-year-old Demetry Quiruz of Maricopa, died at a nearby hospital.
Investigators believe Quiruz was riding east on Smith-Enke Road and ran the red light at Porter Road, before colliding with the westbound Tesla as it was turning left.
