ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has been paused since Saturday. Local nonprofits are bracing for the impact on the community.
Non-profit organizations in Anderson are collecting food to make sure families don't go hungry.
The United States government shutdown is leaving millions of recipients of SNAP benefits empty handed.
Nonprofits said more than 22,000 people are affected.
“People are in a panic. The thought of not having the resources to feed their families. The last two weeks have been a little challenging for us trying to figure out how we are going to respond to this need,” said Kristi King-Brock, AIM Executive Director.
Nonprofits like United Way and AIM are helping families during the uncertainty of where their next meal will come
