LONDON & SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - Food pantries and churches across southern Kentucky are experiencing increased demand as residents seek assistance amid concerns about benefit programs.
A line formed outside God’s Food Pantry in Somerset Monday morning, with the facility reporting longer lines since last week.
“I’m on disability. I need those benefits. Me and a lot of other people as well,” said Mike Freeman, who was waiting in line.
Brenda Russell with God’s Food Pantry said the organization typically puts excess food outside to share with the community, but that changed recently.
“Last week we didn’t even have that to share,” Russell said.
