COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A local trunk-or-treat event got an extra treat, in a heart-warming show of community.

Moe's Original BBQ and Chris Harmon of St. Thomas Episcopal Church worked together to donate 200 sandwiches and chips for kids attending the event at the Boxwood Community Center.

The thoughtful donation comes after WRBL spoke with event organizer Lisa Herring of the East Carver Heights Community Development Corporation last week.

Herring voiced concerns about the impending loss of SNAP benefits, saying that organizers planned to use the trunk-or-treat to get some extra food into the bellies of children in need.

"We care about our families and so that’s why we’re definitely going to have something to eat here besides candy,” Herring said at the time. • Photos from the Boxwood
