SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - For South Dakotans who receive SNAP benefits, the USDA, which oversees the program, says it may take up to two weeks to reload beneficiaries’ debit cards.
The question is how much and when?
Following orders from two federal judges on Friday, the USDA was mandated to provide some form of funding to SNAP beneficiaries in November.
The court decisions allow for partial payments to be made.
The totals in the contingency fund have been variable since the government shutdown. The current balance is $5.6 billion, which is about half of the $9 billion needed to fully fund families who qualify.
