About six miles from its own stomping grounds of Tiffin, the top-ranked Clear Creek Amana volleyball team opened the Class 4A portion of the Iowa high school volleyball state quarterfinals at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
The No. 1 Clippers (42-3) didn’t let an upset take shape, crafting a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-9, 25-21) over No. 8 Sergeant Bluff-Luton (19-13) on Nov. 3 to advance to the state semifinals.
Last season, Sergeant Bluff-Luton secured an upset win over then No. 1 Xavier in the state quarterfinals — history that didn't repeat itself against this season's best team in 4A.
CCA extended its most recent win streak to nine with the win over the Warriors.
“I think (being No. 1) it’s kind of just a chip on our shoulder and we always want to prove ourselves," said CCA senior Averie Low
