HOUSTON — As the federal shutdown continues, uncertainty is growing for service members and their families, including soldiers at Fort Hood in Killeen.
In response, local veterans’ groups, nonprofits and community leaders in Houston have launched Operation Feed Our Soldiers, a citywide food drive collecting non-perishable goods for military families facing food insecurity.
The effort is led by VFW Post 8790 in Spring Branch, with help from Houston Millennials, Hearts of Grace Foundation, Hoodies for Healing, Social Good in Action and several Rotary clubs and private-sector partners.
Two 18-wheelers are set to deliver donations directly to Fort Hood on Saturday, Nov. 8.
"They’re not sure how November’s going to be. Thanksgiving’s coming. The holidays are coming," said Catherine Alexande
