St. Paul's mayoral race centers around two major Democratic candidates: incumbent Mayor Melvin Carter and state Rep. Kaohly Her.
There are three other people running for mayor, though. Also on the ballot are biophysicist Yan Chen, business owner Mike Hilborn, and engineer Adam Dullinger.
St. Paul voters will be asked to weigh in on two ballot measures, in addition to mayor.
The first ballot measure would amend the city’s charter and allow the St. Paul City Council to fine residents, landlords, or business owners for ordinance violations. Currently, the city is only allowed to pursue criminal charges if a city ordinance is violated or isn’t followed.
The second ballot measure is a new St. Paul Public Schools referendum that would increase the district's operating levy by $1,073 per stud
