ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - SNAP recipients did not receive funding this past weekend, and uncertainty remains about when they will get their money due to the ongoing government shutdown. On Monday night, the City of Atlanta urged state leaders to intervene and provide emergency assistance.

The resolution introduced by Councilman Jason Dozier outlined the need to protect the vulnerable, while preventing widespread hunger and economic harm to Georgia families.

The top line of Councilman Dozier’s resolution aims to put pressure on Georgia’s top office to take action.

“Urging Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly to declare a state of emergency to ensure continuity of food assistance for SNAP recipients in the state of Georgia,” the resolution said.
