UMATILLA, Ore. — Facing potentially long delays and high costs from Oregon's overwhelmed teacher misconduct investigation system , the Umatilla School District is using cameras in classrooms to help resolve complaints quickly and fairly.

Teachers in the eastern Oregon district have full control over when, or if, they utilize the overhead camera systems in their classrooms. Most teachers, according to school administrators, choose to use the cameras and keep them running all the time, rather than electing for an "on-demand" recording option.

This approach has dramatically reduced investigation delays and helped protect both students and educators, according to Umatilla School District Superintendent Heidi Sipe.
