A driver was found dead in a vehicle that caught fire after police say the person drove off the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) in Lebanon County and crashed into a tree Monday morning.

Troopers were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash around 1 a.m. on I-76 at mile marker 259.1 in South Londonderry Township.

Police said a 2010 Acura was traveling westbound on the turnpike when the vehicle veered off the road onto the north berm and grass shoulder.

The vehicle continued 397 feet west before crashing into a tree.

The impact caused the vehicle to spin before coming to rest.

Police said the vehicle caught fire and became fully engulfed. The Lawn Fire Department extinguished the fire and found a person in the driver’s seat.

That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
