ROCHESTER, Minn. — As of Monday, food stamp recipients will only receive half of their typical benefits in November. Through an announcement from the Trump administration-- $4.65 billion would be pulled from contingency fund.
The USDA's contingency funds lack the resources to cover enrollees' full allocation, and procedural challenges may cause delays. Despite differing views from the USDA, states like Minnesota are covering SNAP benefits without reimbursement. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and candidate Jake Johnson recently advocated outside Rep. Brad Finstad's office for the full reinstatement of SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.
