NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) - North Sioux City’s City Commission has approved spending just shy of $4 million to buy 16 lots of land on Penrose Drive and Northshore Drive from its citizens. Those are two areas of the city that were devastated by flooding in June of 2024.
Back in October, the City Commission decided to give those homeowners the opportunity to voluntarily opt in to the city’s land acquisition. In the end, the city bought 16 lots along Northshore Drive and Penrose Drive for $3,982,590.
North Sioux City Mayor Chris Bogenrief says the city commission had three ways to determine the value of each property:
Double the assessed value of the lot before the flood, excluding the house.
100% of the lot’s assessed pre-flood value, including the house.
