Lansing — Some Michigan lawmakers say they want potential new jobs initiatives to be based outside of the embattled Michigan Economic Development Corp., signaling bipartisan discontent with the state’s longstanding business attraction agency at a key policy moment.

House Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, said last week that there’s a growing consensus in Lansing that some economic development programs should be moved out of the MEDC, which has faced criticism for its handling of incentive dollars pledged to large corporations for a string of projects that haven't delivered on initial promises .
