NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennessee small businesses are stepping up to help their neighbors in need amid the government shutdown.

John Ingrassia and his team are making a name for themselves, serving up New York style subs in Nashville.

"I wanted to bring a little bit of New York, Italian-American to Nashville," Ingrassia said.

The business is Ingrassia and Sons Deli on Humphreys Street.

"It's one of the few neighborhoods in Nashville like New York where people work, live and walk together," he said. "We're super excited to watch this community as it grows."

Jack Trooper is the head chef.

"When parts of our community needs help, the rest of us need to step up," Trooper said.
