TORONTO — Before Monday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, Penguins rookie Ben Kindel took a moment to soak in his surroundings, glancing up in the rafters at the faces of all the legendary Leafs staring down from above.
That night, the standout 18-year-old went out and made a little history of his own.
Kindel scored twice for the Penguins in a stunning 4-3 loss to the Leafs. He became only the fifth player in franchise history to register a multi-goal game at age 18. The others were Sidney Crosby, Jaromir Jagr, Craig Simpson and Jordan Staal. Not bad.
“Yeah, anytime you’re talked about with those kind of names, it’s pretty special. We obviously wanted to get the win,” he said with a sigh. “That’s most important.”
The Penguins blew a 3-0 lead in the third perio
