DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Duluth voters will decide Tuesday whether renters should have the ability to fix small maintenance issues in their homes and deduct the cost from their rent if landlords fail to make timely repairs.

Question 1 on the ballot — known as the Right to Repair ordinance — would allow tenants to arrange and pay for certain minor repairs if a landlord doesn’t respond to a maintenance request within two weeks.

The measure reached the November ballot after supporters gathered thousands of signatures.

Members of the Duluth Tenants Union, who helped spearhead the effort, say the ordinance is about giving renters more control over their living conditions.
