The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has proposed a significant change to air ticket refund norms, allowing passengers to cancel or amend their tickets without incurring additional charges within 48 hours of booking. This initiative aims to provide greater flexibility to travellers shortly after they purchase their tickets.

Under the proposed regulations, known as the "Look-in option," passengers can make changes to their bookings without extra fees, except for the fare difference for any new flight. However, this option will not apply to domestic flights departing within five days or international flights within 15 days of booking.

Additionally, the DGCA has stated that airlines will be responsible for processing refunds for tickets purchased through travel agents, ensuring that refunds are completed within 21 working days. The proposal also includes provisions for correcting name errors without extra charges if reported within 24 hours of booking directly through the airline's website.

The DGCA is seeking feedback from stakeholders and the public on these proposed changes until November 30. The aim is to address ongoing concerns regarding air ticket refunds and to enhance consumer rights in the aviation sector. Any final decisions will be made after reviewing the comments received during this period.
