Residents in Tammin have been warned to stay alert as an out-of-control bushfire rages near the Wheatbelt town.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a bushfire emergency warning — which was quickly downgraded to a watch and act — shortly after midday on Tuesday for people in parts of Tammin, North Tammin and South Tammin, about 180km north east of Perth .
“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning in the area and conditions are changing,” the alert said.
The blaze, which is not contained nor controlled, was reported just before 11am and is moving quickly in a westerly direction.
Authorities say a section of Great Eastern Highway has now been closed between Yorkrakine Road and Bungulla North Road due to the fire’s intensity.
