Emergency services have closed a stretch of the M6 following a 'serious collision'. And motorists have been warned the southbound carriageway between Junction 13 and 12 is likely to stay shut 'for several hours'.

It comes as Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service had been sent to reports of a crash involving a truck and a van. National Highways had issued an alert just after 12.10am this morning over what was described as a 'serious collision'.

During the night and the stretch had been shut off down to Junction 10A due to overnight roadworks. Traffic has also been stopped on the northbound as emergency services dealt with the smash.
