(NewsNation) — Voters around Virginia head to the polls Tuesday to decide their next governor and a host of other statewide races. The winner of Tuesday’s gubernatorial race will go on to become the Commonwealth of Virginia’s first female governor.
Democratic gubernatorial nominee and former Rep. Abigail Spanberger will face off against Republican nominee and current Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. Spanberger held a comfortable lead in polls leading up to Election Day. Neither candidate faced a primary as the sole contender for their party’s ticket.
