Mesa Public Schools last week touted its achievements with annual letter grades released last week that gave the district an overall “B,” the same as for the year prior.
The A-F letter grades measure school performance by looking at a number of factors but primarily on student academic growth and proficiency in English language arts, math and science based on standardized state testing. The preliminary grades were released Oct. 29.
“Mesa Public Schools has a long history of performing at or slightly above the state average on statewide assessments,” said Jennifer Snyder, district spokeswoman in an email. “In recent years, we’ve experienced some declines; however, last year we saw that trend begin to reverse, with improvements in both English language arts and math.
