North Korea test-fired rockets shortly before U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth arrived for a visit to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) dividing the peninsula, South Korea's military said.
Pyongyang fired approximately 10 artillery rounds toward the Yellow Sea about 4 p.m. local time on Monday, roughly an hour before Hegseth arrived at an army facility a short-distance south of the Joint Security Area (JSA) within the DMZ, South Korean media reported, citing Seoul's military.
Hegseth was visiting the border on Monday alongside his South Korean counterpart, Ahn Gyu-back, as part of a visit to the peninsula this week.
