Champion jockey Jye McNeil has been hit with an 18-meeting ban for his ride on Valiant King in the Melbourne Cup.
McNeil pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding after an incident with two other horses during the race that stops the nation.

The 31-year-old was deemed to have interfered with Presage Nocturne and Vauban near the 2600m mark.
“He rode his mount in, resulting in Presage Nocturne and Vauban racing unnecessarily tight for some distance,” the stewards’ report said.
“Jye McNeil had his licence to ride in races suspended for 18 race meetings.
“In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, good record, that it was a Group 1 event and that the incident was in the mid-range.”
