Capt. Christopher Gerard has been named commander of the Michigan State Police Eighth District, which covers the entire Upper Peninsula.
Gerard, a Baraga High School graduate, began his law enforcement career in 2003 with the Meridian Township Police Department in the Lower Peninsula, according to a community announcement. He joined the Michigan State Police in 2010 and has served in various posts, including Wayland, Wakefield, Calumet, Negaunee and Rockford.
In 2019, Gerard was promoted to sergeant at the government relations section at MSP headquarters in Lansing. He returned to the Negaunee Post as a uniform sergeant in 2021.
