During this week’s Beachcombing survey, I came across not one, not two, but three messages in bottles washed up along the beach. That makes six bottles found in the past month and brings my total to more than 50 messages in bottles discovered over the years of conducting weekly Beachcombing surveys.

The three bottles I found this week were clearly sent by the same person, each clear glass bottle containing what appeared to be a single note tied with a red ribbon and a 2017 penny tucked inside. Once I carefully extracted the letters, I found that each contained two typed pages, front and back, promoting a political agenda. I won’t get into what the messages said, but they serve as a good reminder about the proper etiquette of sending a message in a bottle.
