Akron City Council passed legislation granting the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank up to $100,000 amid the ongoing SNAP outage caused by the continuing government shutdown.
Finance Director Steve Fricker said the money would be paid out in two $50,000 dollar installments. If SNAP benefits resume, he said, the city might channel grant money elsewhere.
Foodbank vice president and chief operating officer Katie Carver Reed said the money could last a couple weeks.
In answer to Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro's call for aid , Akron City Council has unanimously approved a grant of up to $100,000 for the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
