State and federal officials recently announced that Miami Correctional will house ICE detainees in a partnership that could bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds.

The facility outnumbers other state prisons in the total number of violent incidents over the past decade. Nearly half of publicly reported homicides at IDOC facilities happened at the Miami prison.

"I don't know if I could count on my fingers and toes all the assault and stabbings I've seen," one inmate said.

The inmates jabbed him repeatedly. Each time Leo Cullen managed to run away, they forced him to the floor.

In less than a minute, the assault was over.

The men ran back to their cells. Cullen struggled as he walked in the housing unit's common area and sat at a table, blood seeping out of his body.
