CLARK COUNTY, Ind. (WAVE) - A woman convicted in the death of her three-year-old stepdaughter is set to spend 40 years in prison.
Police were called to Norton Children’s Hospital in August 2023 in relation to a little girl who had suffered a traumatic brain injury. Ashanti Jackson said the girl fell off her bed during a seizure and went unconscious.
She died after being on life support for two days and an autopsy revealed her death was a homicide caused by blunt impact injuries to the head.
Friday, a judge sentenced Jackson to 40 years for aggravated battery causing death and three years for neglect of a dependent resulting in death. The judge ordered those sentences run concurrently, saying Jackson will get 300 days credit for time served and completed programs.
