The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the deaths of two sanitation workers in Hansi in the state’s Hisar district, who allegedly died after being forced to enter a hotel’s septic tank without protective equipment.
According to a report published on October 20, 2025, workers Somveer and Virender lost their lives while cleaning a tank at a local hotel after a sewer motor malfunctioned. Both reportedly fell unconscious due to exposure to toxic gases. Their families have accused the hotel management of negligence and coercion.
A Full Bench of the Commission, chaired by Justice Lalit Batra with members Kuldip Jain and Deep Bhatia, observed that the incident reflects a serious violation of the right to life and dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution,
